4-Hour Glassblowing Workshops

2 Sessions:  1) 9am-1pm

   2) 1:30pm-5:30pm

$150/session

Extensive introduction to the basics of glass blowing. 

Takes you step by step through the process of creating your own glass vessel. 

Safety & appropriate tool use will be discussed.

Introduction to Glassblowing Workshop (7hr)

Instructor: Daniel Scogna

Location: Sunspots Studios in Staunton, VA

 

This workshop is an extensive introduction to the basics of glass blowing.  Designed to provide a strong foundation in the basics of working hot glass this course will teach hot shop safety, the basic skills required for beginning any object with hot glass, some history as it pertains to the processes of glassblowing and an introduction to hot glass coloration techniques.  The emphasis will be on having fun and Graduates should expect to be able to successfully gather hot glass from a furnace, shape it, apply color and create rudimentary solid glass “paperweights”, “marbles” and hollow blown glass “vessels”.

 

 This class is the first in a series and will be require for those interested in taking future classes that will build on the skills learned and introduce the creation of more complicated and controlled hollow “blown” forms. 

 

Participants will need to bring a pair of sunglasses (avoid tints that are too dark to see clearly indoors) with UV protection. Closed toed shoes are also required. All other materials and tools will be provided.

 

9:00am-5:00pm with 1 hour break

Space limited to 4 students.  Class must fill for workshop to take place.
